It's more classic detective drama from the 1950's; with one digitally-remastered episode from each of these series: RICHARD DIAMOND (starring David Janssen in a DIFFERENT episode than was featured in TV Classic Detectives Volume 1 ) MR. LUCKY (starring John Vivyan ); SHANNON (starring George Nader ); and MIKE HAMMER ( starring Darren McGavin ); PLUS the NEVER BROADCAST pilot for a fifth show- Jock Mahoney as the offbeat Hollywood detective SIMON LASH!!! Yet another collection of noir gems from the Eisenhower era, featuring familiar faces and names; digitally remastered from 16mm prints for optimum picture quality. David Janssen (seen here as RICHARD DIAMOND ) would become one of the most successful leading actors in TV, scoring long-running successes with future series THE FUGITIVE and HARRY-O, among others. As Mickey Spillane's MIKE HAMMER, Darren McGavin might seem an offbeat choice, but the actor certainly went on to numerous well-remembered character roles in film and TV, including his portrayal of KOLCHAK: The NIGHT STALKER. Both Mr. LUCKY (created by Blake Edwards, and featuring a Henry Mancini musical score ) and SHANNON were popular and successful examples of the genre in their day, though virtually unknown to today's TV audiences. SIMON LASH is a rare find, as once completed, this pilot for the adventures of a ranch-owning detectivewas NEVER BROADCAST. Actor Jock Mahoney's performance here has been virtually unseen , since the program has never been previously releasd on DVD or video tape, and survived (until now) only as a 16mm print, thanks to film colecting hobbyists. This is a region-free, all-ages live-action DVD presentation originally shot in black & white in 1958 and 1959, and has a running time of approximately 21/2 hours. They are in NTSC format, recorded on a DVD-R disc, and should be playable on any standard DVD player. Released in 2007.
