TV SPACE HEROES Vol.2 - $19.95

More DVD space opera from the 1950's with complete episodes (continued from TV's SPACE HEROES, Volume One ) of SPACE PATROL and the CAPTAIN VIDEO TV series (with Richard Coogan as VIDEO ); TWO full TOM CORBETT, SPACE CADETs; plus Chapter Two of the 1951 CAPTAIN VIDEO movie serial. Includes original commercials!!
This collection's SPACE PATROL episode; 1954's "The Demon Planet", is a continuation of the SP story begun in TV's SPACE HEROES Volume One, "Prisoners Of The Giant Comet"; and the first TOM CORBETT, SPACE CADET episode here, "Stop The Asteroid" picks up where "Emergency Repairs To Polaris" left off last volume. The untitled CAPTAIN VIDEO TV episode stars Richard Coogan as CAPTAIN VIDEO, as opposed to Al Hodge's version, sampled on Volume One. One thing that received MUCH comment on our first SH collection was something we neglected to mention in it's pre-release publicity, and that is that these vintage 1950's TV episodes ALSO contain all of the original COMMERCIALS, which are often as outrageously entertaining as the programs themselves. This volume is no exception, and all those wacky ad spots are here, too- breakfast cereals, premium ads, mail-in contests and all. THEY may be worth the price of the DVD alone.

The disc is in NTSC format, recorded on a DVD-R disc, and should play on any standard DVD player. Runs 119 minutes.

TV CLASSIC DETECTIVES Vol.1 -(coming soon) $19.95

These programs are digitally re-mastered from the original 16mm film syndication prints, and recorded regions-free, in NTSC format, on a DVD-R disc. It should play on any standard DVD player, and has an approximate total running time of 120 minutes.
It's 1950's television at it's grittiest, with full episodes from four of the era's best detective series: RICHARD DIAMOND (starring David Janssen); JOHNNY STACCATO (John Cassavetes); PHILIP MARLOWE (Philip Carey), and TIGHTROPE (Mike Connors). Terse TV crime drama featuring big-name stars in programs rarely seen in nearly 50 years.
A staple of early television, the detective show was one of the most prolific formats (surpassed only by the Western) to be exploited in the '50's, and this collection highlights some of the best. RICHARD DIAMOND was originally created (by producer Blake Edwards) as a radio vehicle for Dick Powell, but on TV became David Janssen's first major success. It influenced a generation of detective fiction that followed, in addition to introducing the TV audience to Mary Tyler Moore. Diamond had a phone in his car which was novel in 1959. JOHNNY STACCATO had a unique slant, focusing on crime solving in the world of jazz music, with star John Cassavetes (better known in future years as a film director) playing the title role as part-time detective, full-time musician. His "office" was Waldo's, a Greenwich Village jazz club owned by Eduardo Cianelli who preferred classical music. Many real life jazz stars performed at Waldo's. Raymond Chandler's PHILLIP MARLOWE character has been one of the most enduring in recent pop culture history, through numerous novels, films and other TV series, while TIGHTROPE star Mike Connors moved on to play other memorable detectives in movies and TV, most notably MANNIX in the 1960's. Digitized directly from the original 16mm prints, picture quality on all of these programs (on DVD for the first time) is excellent.

TV CLASSIC DETECTIVES Vol.2 -(coming soon) $19.95

MORE classic detective drama from the 1950's with one digitally re-mastered episode from each of these series: RICHARD DIAMOND (starring David Janssen), MR. LUCKY (John Vivyan), SHANNON (George Nader) and MIKE HAMMER (Darren McGavin), PLUS the NEVER-BROADCAST pilot for a fifth show- Jock Mahoney as the offbeat Hollywood detective SIMON LASH !!
Yet another collection of noir gems from the Eisenhower era, featuring familiar faces and names, digitally re-mastered from 16mm film prints for picture quality. David Janssen (seen here as RICHARD DIAMOND ) would become one of the most successful lead actors in TV, scoring long-running successes with future series THE FUGITIVE and HARRY-O, among others. As Mickey Spillane's MIKE HAMMER, Darren McGavin might seem an offbeat choice, but the actor certainly went on to numerous well-remembered character roles in film and TV, including his portrayal of KOLCHAK: The NIGHT STALKER. Both MR. LUCKY (created by Blake Edwards with a Henry Mancini score) and SHANNON were popular and successful examples of the genre in their day, though virtually unknown to today's viewing audiences. SIMON LASH is a rare find, as once completed, this pilot for the adventures of a ranch-owning detective whose beat is Hollywood and the entertainment industry was NEVER BROADCAST. Action star Jock Mahoney's performance here has been virtually unseen, since the program has never been previously released on DVD or video tape, and survived (until now) only as a 16mm print, thanks to film collecting hobbyists.
All are digitally-remastered from the original 16mm film prints, and recorded on a regions-free, NTSC format DVD-R disc. It should play on any standard DVD player, and has an approximate total running time of 2 1/2 hours .
