Some direction by serial greats William Witney and Spencer Bennet. The program consists of complete, single chapters from eight different actual vintage action serial movies. The adventure serial was a film genre unto itself, a staple of the movie-viewing experience up until the 1950s. That approach to film making is long-gone, but through the miracle of digital technology, we can still enjoy many of the greats that have survived the years. This compilation DVD allows viewers to sample some of the best — from masked and costumed heroes like Spy Smasher and the Black Commando (from The Secret Code), to futuristic science fiction with Captain Video and Flash Gordon, the romance of the Old West with Zorro, to gang busting crime story action with Dick Tracy. Jean Evans (Phyllis Coates), the beautiful photographer whom the natives call THE PANTHER GIRL OF THE KONGO, encounters a fiendish plot by diamond smugglers in Africa. A renegade scientist (Arthur Space) develops a fantastic growth hormone to create gigantic CLAW MONSTERS that keep both natives and the authorities busy while his men loot diamond mines. With the aid of white hunter Larry Saunders (Myron Healey), Panther Girl combats giant crayfish, a savage gorilla, slithering crocodiles, blazing guns, deadly explosions and life-threatening perils. Phyllis Coates is fondly remembered as TV's first Lois Lane in ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN.
