Click Here to Buy Thrilling Science Fiction # 1 From beyond the wild, vast reaches of space come illustrated stories of the future... told in the past! The AC Comics selection of classic science fiction comic books stories springs mainly from the Fiction House title, PLANET COMICS. In the 1930's and 1940's, Fiction House was a prominent producer of pulp magazines which included PLANET STORIES. So when that company decided to launch a line of comic books, PLANET COMICS was a natural. Though a crude affair at first, it soon blossomed into a well illustrated and exciting magazine.

It was an anthology title that had a roster of regular characters. Early features like The Red Comet and Gale Allen of the Girl Squadron soon faded to be replaced by more provocative heroes and heroines. One of the best and longest running features was THE LOST WORLD which told the story of a future Earth ravaged by alien invaders. Only a handful of humans survive to fight the invading Voltamen led by the stalwart HUNT BOWMAN and his right-hand babe, Lyssa. The best stories in its run were illustrated by George Evans, a consummate craftsmClick Here to Buy Thrilling Wonder Tales # 1 an who would gain fame in the 1950's as one of the outstanding illustrators at EC Comics. And there was MYSTA OF THE MOON, a futuristic superheroine type who had a cloak of invisibility. Her best stories were drawn by Matt Baker. STAR PIRATE, often drawn by Murphy Anderson, had jet powered boots. AURO, LORD OF JUPITER, SPACE RANGERS and FUTURA were also around to liven up PLANET COMICS.

Other sources of sc-fi thrills in AC's reprints were Fawcett Comics' CAPTAIN VIDEO, based on the television series and drawn by George Evans; SPACE PATROL by Bernie Krigstein derived from the radio and television series of the early 1950's; CAPTAIN SCIENCE delineated by Wallace Wood and tales from the Avon Comics title, STRANGE WORLDS illustrated by Al Williamson and Frank Frazetta. Other sci-fi yarns in the AC library were drawn by Reed Crandall, Dick Ayers, Steve Ditko, Leonard Starr and Bob Powell.
