Great American Western # 1
The wild west lives again, with three new, FULL COLOR, never-before-printed sagebrush sagas, done by contemporary creators, in the spirit of the great classic western comics of the 1950's. Then, Rick (Plastic Man)Burchett offers up "Santee", as the frontier man on the run convinces a wavering settler to give western liffe another try. Story and art by Burchett. Finally, The Missourian investigates "Murder in Marlboro", as mining accikdent that wasn't leads Mac and Spinner onto the trail of a missing fortune. If you loved the west in four-color comic book style, as seen in the best western comics of their heyday, from publishers like Magazine Enterprises, Dell, Orbit, Prize, Lev Gleason and the rest, this is for you. AC's first western-themed book, which launched their long-running and successful western line of comics. Great American Western # 2
The magazine dedicated to the preservation of the western is back, with a special focus on the best western comics of yesteryear. "The Kid From Broken Gun" is a nine-page, comprehensive (and profusely photo illustrated) article on the career of Charles Starrett and his most famous on-screen persona, The Durango Kid; followd by "Best Of The West", an overview of the top western comic house of the 1950's, Magazine Enterprises. Both written by western comics historian Bill Black. Then, a trio of superlative full story reprints- Red Mask in "Stage To Devil's Gap", with art by Frank Bolle; and Red Hawk in "The Helpless Warrior", drawn by Bob Powell. Both are in full color. Finally, Charlton's Billy The Kid (an untitled story from Billy The Kid #21) with art by John Severin. Great art, top flight reproduction and tons of information. This special issue is completely devoted to the king of the action cowboys- Sunset Carson! Starting with an introductory letter from his widow, Jeane J. Carson, on the second page, it's 52 pages of rollicking action- including not one but TWO, all new, never-before-seen Sunset Carson comic book stories, drawn especially for this book, in full color! First, there's "The Night Of The Rattler", wherin the sagebrush marshal comes up against a foe that seems almost supernatural. Written by Bill Black, drawn by Jordi Ensign, and inked by Mark Heike. Then, the thrills and chills continue, as Sunset stalks the streets of Morgue, Texas, where he gets a little help ropin' the badhats from none other than The Haunted Horseman !(M. Jones to life in this Western thriller that pits the roving marshal against a whip-wielding masked outlaw, El Azote! Reprinted from the Fawcett Comics book of the same year.
